Starting your own college requires a great deal of commitment and effective planning. Following are the steps to start a college:

• Primarily, form a committee. The members of the committee should be expert individuals with substantial knowledge and experience. Moreover, get the committee registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, to declare the non-profit motive.
• Further, make sure to obtain the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Directorate of Higher Education (DoHE). This is required in order to acquire the land from the concerned land owing authority. Apart from this, fill an application form and submit it along with a fee of Rs.10,000 to the DoHE.
• After procuring the land, start the construction process comprising of adequate infrastructure and interiors (depending upon the type of college).
• Once the college has come into existence, it has to be affiliated to a recognised university. For this, an application form is to be filled with all the norms and rules decided by the concerned university, for which a fixed amount has to be paid to the university.
• Next, get the college affiliated to a recognised university such as University Grants Commission (UGC), which is one of the apex bodies in India which is responsible for controlling and maintain the education standards in all the colleges which are affiliated to it.
• After this, get the approval for the professional degree programmes from the concerned governing authorities, For instance: Bar Council for law college, Medical Council of India for medical college etc.
